I felt a need to more deeply understand my experiences in Baton Rouge and reconcile with them, and try to give myself the tools to become more adept at handling the harsh situations in life that we face. I’ve focused on the places and people I spent my time with in the seven years I’ve lived here, whether they bring back good or bad sentiments. Revisiting these memories and traumas through my work helps me resolve them as best I can. It’s a process of memorializing them for myself through these photographs of celebration and grief.
